Cathay Pacific Resumes Cargo Flights to Ho Chi Minh City

Created on:2024-04-08

After a four-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, Cathay Pacific Airways has resumed its cargo flights to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, marking its first flight since December 2019 and signifying a strong return of its cargo services between Vietnam and Hong Kong. Flight CX3148, departing from Ho Chi Minh City to Hong Kong via Hanoi every Thursday, complements Cathay Pacific's existing six weekly cargo flights from Hanoi to Hong Kong.

Since 1949, Cathay Pacific has been providing passenger services between Vietnam and Hong Kong. The first flight upon resumption carried a significant amount of cargo, including diplomatic mail, seafood, and vegetables, highlighting the importance of the Vietnamese market in its global cargo network. Cathay Pacific Cargo has been offering comprehensive cargo services from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi since March 2008.

In 2023, Cathay Pacific Cargo transported an average of nearly 2,000 tons of goods per month from Vietnam, with approximately 600 tons carried by its two daily passenger flights departing from Ho Chi Minh City. The cargo mainly consisted of garments, footwear, fruits, live and frozen seafood, destined for major locations such as Hong Kong, Mainland China, Northeast Asia, Australia, and North America.

The resumption of cargo services not only increases capacity but also provides Ho Chi Minh City shippers with Cathay Pacific Cargo's main deck solutions for handling odd-sized cargo and cargo designated for freighter-only transport, such as certain dangerous goods.

Ashish Kapur, the Cargo Manager for Southeast Asia, expressed excitement about the return to Ho Chi Minh City, noting it as timely in response to the resumption of factory activities and rising air freight demand in this economic hub. Nicolas Masse, the Regional Manager for Vietnam and Cambodia, highlighted the eagerness of their professional team in Ho Chi Minh City for the service resumption, committing to excellent customer service in collaboration with their freight forwarding partners.

Cathay Pacific's move not only strengthens the cargo capacity between Vietnam and Hong Kong but also demonstrates its commitment to meeting the regional demand for air freight.
